    Sampath, Benjamin to lead team to Japan ahead of GIM 2.0

    Ahead of the second edition of the Global Investors Meet (GIM), Industries Minister MC Sampath and Rural Industries Minister P Benjamin would lead a high-level delegation to Japan to promote Japanese investments in the state.

    The delegation, which will be in Japan from February 26 to March 2, is scheduled to participate in seminars and meetings with the Japanese business community, said a release from the Secretariat. 

    The delegation will also hold meetings with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and other Japanese trade and commerce organisations. Jointly organised by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Chennai (JCCIC), state government of Tamil Nadu and Embassy of India, Japan, the proposed visit comes in the wake of the ensuing GIM slated to be held in January 2019. 

    The Ministers will be accompanied by the secretary, MSME department, special secretary, Industries Department and the Executive Vice Chairperson, Tamil Nadu Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion Bureau. The delegation is scheduled to visit Tokyo, Yokohama and Hamamatsu cities of Japan to strengthen the trade and economic relationship between the states and also to promote industrial investments in Tamil Nadu. 

    The release claimed that Tamil Nadu has been identified as one of the most potential states for Japanese investments while close to 600 Japanese companies are already operating in the state. 

    “Japan was one of the Partner Nations during Global Investors Meet 2015 and several Japanese companies, including Maruchan Ajinomoto, Sekisui-DLJM, Takasago, Sojitz-Motherson Industrial park, Sumitomo M&M Industrial Park, entered into MOUs with the Government of Tamil Nadu during the event and have also implemented the projects successfully,” it said. The delegation will make a detailed presentation on advantages of investing in Tamil Nadu during the seminars and also have Business to Government (B to G) meetings with prospective investors in Japan.  

    Members of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Yokohama Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Hamamatsu Chamber of Commerce & Industry will be present during the seminar. Besides meeting officials of METI, JETRO, they will also visit companies such as Yamaha Motors, and Sumitomo during the course of the five-day programme.
