TNSTC driver thrashed by lawyers attempts suicide
A 54-year-old TNSTC driver, who was attacked by a group of lawyers during a road roko at Sivaganga on Thursday, attempted suicide at Somanur near Paramakudi, in Ramanthapuram district.

Sources said that lawyers staged a protest near the Sivaganga bus stand demanding to repair the roads Meanwhile, the driver of a Paramakudi-bound government bus from Tiruchy via Sivaganga unaware of the lawyer’s protest tried to pass through the area.
On seeing the bus, a lawyer in a bid to stop it clung on to the window. However, he lost balance and tripped. On seeing this, other lawyers immediately stopped the bus, pulled out the driver, identified as Selvaraj of Somanur, and thrashed him. Though police were present at the spot, they failed to save the driver from the lawyers. Selvaraj after completing his duty went home. It is said that he saw the footage of lawyers attacking him on TV and his friends and relatives too called him and inquired him about the incident. The driver became depressed as he was getting a flurry of calls.
Sources said that later he went out, consumed poison and was found lying on the roadside.
He also reportedly left a suicide note at his home. A passer-by who noticed the driver lying unconscious informed the police after which he was rushed to Paramakudi GH. In the suicide note he had stated that more than 20 lawyers attacked and kicked him.Â
