State medical council gears up to act on pending cases
The case of a woman doctor who attempted to kill her82-year-old father, a heart patient on medical support in an ICU, by pulling the plug after getting his thumb impression on a set of papers is only one of the several cases that have been pending for over a year, owing to the internal politics at the Tamil Nadu Medical Council that debilitated its functioning.

However, following the election that finally concluded on Friday, the newly-elected members said the pending cases would now be taken up. “There are a number of cases that need to be investigated, following which necessary disciplinary actions will be taken,” said Dr K Senthil, an elected member of the council.
While the council had issued notices to two doctors involved in the hair transplant that cost the life of the young medico in June 2016, the case has been on hold ever since. In the other case involving the woman doctor who tried to kill her father, the FIR was filed in January 2016 and the doctor was charge-sheeted for attempt to murder.
But, troubles within the council ensured that the procedure has been put on hold till date. Following the elections, the state council has seven new members: Dr K Senthil, Dr Jeyasingh Thangavelu, Dr Thiyagarajan, Dr Dhalapathy Sadacharan, Dr Sadagopan, Dr Ponnuraj and Dr Surendran.
