Farmers seek Purohit’s help to get Cauvery water
Farmers who met Governor Banwarilal Purohit here on Wednesday urged him to get them the due of 81 TMC water from Karnataka by taking up the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi so that they could save the standing crops.

The Governor was on a visit to Tiruchy and received petitions from the public and the farmers at Circuit House here. Among them, a group of farmers led by Puliyur A Nagarajan, state president of TMC (farmers wing), submitted a petition and appealed to Purohit to urge the PM to constitute the Cauvery Management Board at the earliest for the welfare of Tamil Nadu farmers.
They said around 25 TMC excess water during the monsoon was being wasted every year without proper storage capacity in the state. To prevent the water draining into the sea, check dams should be built and the Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundaru linking project should be expedited.
DMK holds black flag protest
DMK cadre showed black flags to Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Subramaniyapuram in Tiruchy while he was on the way to attend the convocation at the Bharathidasan University on Wednesday. Hundreds of DMK cadre gathered near the Jail Corner carrying black flags and placards displaying slogans asking Purohit to not interfere in the rights of the elected government.
DMK has been holding black flag protests in all the districts during the visits by the Governor where he conducts review meetings with officials. DMK claims that it was against democracy.
