I-T officials from Thanjavur have been conducting raids on the business establishments of Pattukottai Town traders union president S Ramanujam since Monday. The officials also raided his family-owned SR Oil Mill, SR Mahal, SR Retail Oil Shop and his relative Arunachalam’s Merico Copra Procurement Centre at Palayam in Pattukkottai and another copra procurement centre at Thanjavel Nagar.

The I-T sleuths allegedly posed a series of embarrassing questions to Ramanujam’s son SR Ravi (69) and forced him to acknowledge documents related to business transactions and this had depressed Ravi who reportedly consumed a heavy dose of sleeping pills.

Though Ravi had informed the I-T officials that he was experiencing severe chest pain, they had not bothered about it and allegedly believed he wanted to escape further questioning from them.
