Members of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam and Federation of River Protection associations gathered near the Tiruchy Collectorate and raised slogans against the apex court verdict on the Cauvery issue and claimed that the ruling was anti-Tamil Nadu farmers. They claimed that the reduced quantum of water would turn the Delta regions into a desert since there would be less possibility of using groundwater which has been decreasing everyday.

Stating that the Centre would exercise its influence to delay the forming of the Cauvery Management Board which has been ordered by the apex court, the farmers urged the Union government to be unbiased in the water dispute. They pointed out that the Centre was acting as just a spectator when the Karnataka government failed to obey the court’s order in earlier instances. This time, the Centre should strictly implement the Cauvery Management Board without delay, they said.

The farmers also charged that the Tamil Nadu government failed to approach the case properly and had spoiled the livelihood of the farmers from the Cauvery delta region.

State president Indrajith led over the protest. TMC (Farmers Wing) president Puliyur A Nagarajan, treasurer Rajendran, district secretary of Tamilaga Vivasayigal Sangam Ayilai Sivasuriyan, Federation of River Protection state coordinator Tamilalagan and others took part.
