Inter-State bus services between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, suspended in the wake of the judgement on the Cauvery issue, has resumed, a senior district official said here today.

"Bus operations that were suspended since morning on both the sides have just been resumed" District Collector C Kathiravan told PTI.

He said the number of inter-state buses between the two States would be gradually restored to the usual level.

"In one go we cannot send in all the buses," he said.

Before resuming bus services, talks were held with Karnataka authorities and "absolute calm prevails," he added.

The official said trucks, commercial vehicles and cars were plying following a brief suspension of vehicular movement in the morning.

A top Tamil Nadu police official said adequate police personnel have been posted in key areas, including the delta regions and those bordering Karnataka.

"There are absolutely no law and order issues anywhere in Tamil Nadu," he said.

Additional police personnel were posted before a Karnataka Association run school in Chennai as part of precautionary measures.

Motorcycle borne police partol units initially accompanied Bengaluru bound buses, but were later withdrawn when authorities found the situation continued to be normal.

In the wake of the Supreme Court judgment on the Cauvery issue, security was tightened along the inter-State borders between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

Armed police pickets and additional police personnel were deployed in key pockets in Krishnagiri district, including at the border village of Zuzuwadi on the Tamil Nadu side.
