    Farmer grievances meet held

    Farmers complained that leather tanneries and finished leather units were discharging untreated effluents into the Palar river and its tributary, the Malattar, at the agricultural grievances day meet organized at the Vellore collector office on Tuesday.

    Among other grievances raised in the meet were the abrupt disconnection of free electricity supply to agriculture pump sets, resulting in crops not getting adequate water. 

    Farmers also spoke about the money menace which is threatening their produce. They alleged the district administration failed to create a monkey sanctuary at the Amirthi reserve forest as they had promised some time ago.
