“We are introducing a 24 hour toll-free helpline, ‘14417’, for aspiring students. Our experts will counsel the students through the helpline about making the right choices about their higher secondary stream, buying the right books for the respective streams and what they can study in colleges according to the streams,” said the minister, speaking at Perambalur.

He added that the state government has been giving prime importance to the relief of students from getting into depression due to the pressure of developing aspirations to get into higher education streams and choosing a good discipline in colleges.

“We have eliminated the ranking system in Class 10 and Class 12 to avoid such pressure among students,” he said.
