Division bench to hear Vairamuthu case
The first bench of the Madras High Court headed by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee on Monday transferred the hearing of a PIL seeking to ban the article written by lyricist Vairamuthu titled “Tamizhai Aandal” to another division bench headed by Justice S Manikumar.

When the PIL moved by M Mohideen Ibrahim, G Prabhu, A Victor and Kannan seeking to ban the article published in a Tamil daily on January 8 and forfeit all the copies came up for hearing, the Chief Justice observed, “I know very little Tamil as I am an outsider and so I recuse myself from the case.”
The second judge Abdul Quddhose also observed “I don’t know much about Tamil literature. I gathered the basic information about the case on the net.” Advocate S Sathya appearing for the petitioner submitted that under the guise of freedom of expression, Goddess Andaal was defamed.
