According to police, the transgender identified as Rahul alias Swetha from Tirupathur had sought alms from Satyanarayanan, 32, a native of Andhra Pradesh on the Allepy-Dhanbad express train, on Saturday. The victim, along with his friends, was bound to Tirupur in search of a job. As the train was nearing Sampalpatti railway station near Uthangarai, Krishnagiri district, Swetha and a few other transgenders had sought alms from him.
“Satyanarayanan refused to give alms claiming to have no money as he himself is in search of a job. Infuriated over his reply, Swetha hurled abuses and kicked him out of the train, who was sitting near the entrance. His friend Karam Veer who attempted to rescue Sathyanarayanan, also fell off the train,” police said. While Satyanarayanan was crushed to death under the wheels of the train, his friend Karam Veer suffered serious injuries.
Onlookers who witnessed this informed the railway police, who then launched a hunt for the missing accused. Following the search, the railway police reached the house of the transgender, who, on fearing arrest, attempted suicide by consuming rat poison. Police, however, rescued and admitted her the hospital. As her condition improved, the Salem Railway Police arrested the transgender.
