After Coimbatore, Tirupur to host jallikattu on February 18
The hosiery hub of Tirupur is all set to host its first jallikattu on February 18.

The foundation pole for the traditional sport was laid by minister for animal husbandry ‘Udumalai’ Radhakrishnan, on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said that more than 1,000 bulls from Alanganallur, Palamedu, Kangayam, Vellakovil and Thammampatty are participating in the jallikattu event to be held in Tirupur, for the first time.
Owners of over 500 bulls have already registered, confirming their participation. “The event will be organised by experts roped in from Madurai and Tiruchy districts. All safety measures will be in place,” the minister said. Radhakrishnan also said that as many as 18 teams of veterinary doctors have been constituted to examine the bulls participating in jallikattu. Besides medical facilities, other basic requirements like drinking water and transport are taken care of by the district administration.
