The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose on issuing notice to the State posted the case to February 9 for further hearing. The plea had contended that during the Vardha cyclone in December 2016, as many as nine fishermen went missing.Â
Subsequently, the bodies of two fishermen alone were found washed ashore in the Nagapattinam coast while the bodies of the remaining fishermen could not be traced.Â
Immediately, after this the State provided a lakh each to the families of the deceased from the Chief Minister’s relief fund and assured another Rs.4 Lakhs from Disaster Management funds. But till date the assured money has not been offered and representations to the Government has failed to evoke any response, the plea said.
