According to police, the three men identified as Samrat, 29, Bindhu, 20 and Ajay, 25, were construction labourers and hail from West Bengal.
“They had taken up the contract to fix tiles in a house newly built by Mayilsamy, 54 near his farm residence in Annur. On January 25, the trio knocked and asked for drinking water. When an unsuspecting Mayilsamy opened the door, he was hit on his head with a wooden log,” police said. They then subjected him to electrocution by passing a live wire on him. While Mayilsamy fell unconscious, his wife Rajamani came out rushing on hearing the loud noise.
“The three men murdered her by strangulation,” police said. Thereafter, they fled away looting eight sovereigns of gold chain and Rs one lakh in cash from the house. The Annur police registered a case and a special team was constituted to nab the culprits. The police tracked them to a hideout in Andhra Pradesh and set out to nab them a few days ago. However the culprits could not be arrested in AP.
Yet again, their location was traced by mobile phone to be in West Bengal. In co-ordination with cops in West Bengal, a team of Tamil Nadu police surrounded a house at Siliguri in Jalpaiguri district, where the three men were hiding. They were caught at gun point. They are likely to be brought to Coimbatore for enquiry.
