    Bus fare hike: Train patronage goes up

    Patronage of Chennai division of southern railway (SR) zone has shot up ever since the state government effected hike in bus fare. Number of season ticket passengers increased by 5,56,150, netting an additional revenue of Rs14.6 lakh during January 20–26, 2018, against the same period the corresponding year.

    On the non-season ticket front, there was an increase of 2.4 lakh additional passengers and Chennai railway division, which operates 700 services daily, has generated an additional Rs 1.81 crore owing to the sharp rise in patronage during the aforesaid period. 

    Also, over 5.87 lakh additional passengers have used UTS App, again recording an increase in revenue to the tune of Rs 1.64 crore. In the same breath, a total of 2.06 lakh additional bookings were made through ATVMs (Automatic ticket vending machines) and additionally Rs 31 lakh was generated in comparison with 2017.

    In all, Chennai Division has registered an increase of 7.95 lakh passengers. Total number of passengers–season/nonseason and generated an additional revenue of Rs 1.96 crore during January 20-26, 2018, compared to the same period the year before.

    Train cancellation 

    Chennai Central-Mettupalayam Nilagiri Express (Train no: 12671/12672) would be partially cancelled between Coimbatore and Mettupalayam from February 1 to March 3. Cancellation has been proposed owing to works taken up to increase the platform length to hold 24 coaches and modify the foot over bridge to facilitate electrification at Mettupalayam station.

    Special trains 

    Southern Railway (SR) has announced more special fare special trains to clear extra rush of traffic during summer 2018. Train no: 06087 will leave Chennai Egmore at 11.45 pm on Mondays from April 2 to June 25 and reach Karaikal at 8.30 am the next day. Train no: 06088 will leave Karaikal at 10.30 pm on Tuesdays from April 3 to June 26 and reach Chennai Egmore at 8.25 am the next day. 

    Train no: 06026 will leave Tiruchchirappalli at 3.25 pm on Saturdays from April 7 to June 30 and reach Chennai Egmore at 9.10 pm the same day. Train no: 06025 will leave Chennai Egmore at 9.45 am on Wednesdays from April 11 to July 4 and reach Tiruchchirappalli at 3.15 pm the same day. 

    Train no: 06033 will leave Chennai Egmore at 11.40 pm on Saturdays from April 7 to June 30 and reach Ernakulam Jn at 1.30 pm the next day. Train no: 06034 will leave Ernakulam Jn at 5 pm on April 10, 17, 24 and May 8, 15, 22, 29 and June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 3 and reach Chennai Egmore at 6.45 am the next day. Train no: 06046 will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 3.25 pm on Wednesdays from April 4 to June 27 and reach Karaikal at 3.45 am the next day. 

    Train no: 06045 will leave Karaikal at 10.45 pm on Thursdays from April 5 to June 28 and reach Thiruvananthapuram at 12.15 am the next day. Advance reservation for the above trains will commence at 8 am on January 30.
