Rajini puts selfless politics to fore in groundswell of support

After a brief hiatus, actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth on Sunday addressed his fans in a new video, making a case for selfless politics – the latest addition to his burgeoning political campaign, which began on January 31 last year, with his announcement to enter politics.

“Our intention is to bring about a sea change in the current political scenario in Tamil Nadu. This will not be an easy task. However, we will be able to accomplish this if there is discipline and unity amongst us. We must keep our hearts and thoughts pure and always remember that we are in the service of the public. We must set aside all personal motives and work for the welfare of the general public. The state must undergo a transformation so stellar that the rest of India must look up to Tamil Nadu as an example.”

Rajinikanth, who has released a website and mobile app to garner support amongst fans for his Rajini Makkal Mandram – is still awaited to announce the name of his political party.

“God has bestowed us with this important and timely opportunity and we must use it well. I would like to once again stress upon the importance of taking care of your family - I would not want you to neglect your family to perform this task. We must have our homes in order before we can bring about any change. I also emphasise that you must not be disheartened if you have not secured any position or power, you must have faith that the right decisions are being made at the highest level internally. We must display a united front at this hour as any rift or tension is what others will look to take advantage of. We must not allow any room for such speculations,” Rajinikanth added in the video, stressing on his ‘spiritual politics’ ideals, though there was no mention of whether he would compete in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The 67-year-old signed off, saying, “We are all well-meaning individuals who have chosen this path with the blessings of God. I’d once again like to stress that cooperation and discipline are key to doing your part – God will take care of the rest and I will be with you.”
