Purushothaman had made headlines following a flurry of complaints from women duped by him. He had also moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail.

According to the police, Purushothaman had married eight women and duped them of Rs 4.5 crore. “After his wife died 15 years ago, Purushothaman went on a marrying spree. With his detention, we expect more women to come up with complaints,” said a police officer.

Purushothaman chose his targets with the help of N Mohanan and his wife Vanaja Kumari, who were running a matrimonial centre in Coimbatore. The couple, who had received huge amounts for helping the conman, was recently arrested by police.

His modus operandi is to strike a psychological chord with his victims by making his teenage daughter to stay in his house. Purushothaman tricked the women to part with their money in order to bail him out from unexpected financial emergencies. Later, he would sever the contact. The police are taking efforts to attach his properties to recover the money that has been looted by him.
