Churning likely in AIADMK on new recruitment drive
Setting the ball rolling for the AIADMK organisation elections, which could open the likelihood of the next round of tussle for supremacy at all levels in the party, which does not have a general secretary now, party co-ordinator O Panneerselvam and joint co-ordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami on Saturday announced the renewal and recruitment of new members for the party.

In a joint statement, the two leaders said the party’s organisation elections would be held this year since the process is mandatory in every five years.
The forms for recruitment and renewal would be distributed from January 29 at the party headquarters, the leaders said and added that the membership forms for Tamil Nadu would be priced at Rs 10, while those for the other states had been fixed at Rs 5.
The AIADMK had adopted a resolution in its general council meeting that former chief minister J Jayalalithaa would be the permanent general secretary of the party. It had also stated that the party would be governed by a steering committee under the leadership of the party co-ordinator and joint co-ordinator.
But, the Election Commission of India had not taken note of the new posts and entrusted ‘Two Leaves’ symbol to party presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan and treasurer O Panneerselvam.
The AIADMK had removed functionaries supporting RK Nagar legislator TTV Dinakaran and the party should fill the vacant posts for which a stiff contest at all levels could be expected. It is to be seen how the party leadership tackles the tussles.
The party also announced that it would hold the district secretaries meeting on February 2. It is expected to discuss the preparations for local body elections, the organisation elections and the birth anniversary celebrations of Jayalalithaa.
The party continued with its removal of Dinakaran supporters and expelled the functionaries from Thoothukudi.
