10 hurt as bulls run amok during bus fare stir in Karur
The DMK organised protest against bus fare hike on Saturday ended in chaos at Karur after the bulls of a cart brought for the purpose ran amok. The bullock cart toppled, injuring 10 persons, including four women. The condition of two persons was said to be critical.

As part of the statewide protests, the DMK cadre from Thanthondri Malai in Karur organised a mega event by the ex-union president Ravi and the cadre rallied in bullock carts to the venue to condemn the fare hike. One of the carts, which had as many as eight persons, including four women, identified as Sulochana (52), Jothi (36), Ponnuthayee (48) and Pushpa (41), went out of control and the bulls created chaos among the cadre.
The bulls were terrified on hitting a two-wheeler and the bike riders were run over by the cart. Two others in another motorbike were also injured. The bulls ran helter shelter toppling the cart and throwing the occupants out onto the road. The DMK cadre rushed the injured to the GH.
In Vellore: Meanwhile, leading the protests in Vellore, Duraimurugan, deputy leader of opposition in the Assembly, said that the DMK would undertake a review on how to convert loss-ridden transport corporations into profitable ventures through a committee comprising former DMK ministers TR Baalu, KN Nehru and S Ponmudi.
It would submit its report to the state government, he added.
He expressed doubt that the government would use the revenue collected by the hike in bus fare for the transport workers’ welfare.
At Madurai: The protests were held in two different places, one in Madurai and another one in Sekkanurani. MDMK, VCK and Indian Union Muslim League functionaries joined the DMK workers. Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi, Aathi Tamilar Peravai, Nethaji Forward Bloc and other allies of the DMK participated.
