    NIT Tiruchy poised to become inter-disciplinary Centre of Excellence

    NIT, Tiruchy has decided to launch an inter-disciplinary Centre of Excellence to bring together departments like research in NIT, industries and other academic institutions to make Tiruchy as a major hub for research, innovation and manufacturing, said NIT, Tiruchy Director Mini Shaji Thomas here on Friday.

    Unfurling the tri-colour on the Republic day, Director Mini Shaji stated that time has come to work for a new NIT, Tiruchy 2022. “The first such centre will be functional soon, in “manufacturing’’ to catapult NIT Tiruchy to a major hub for research, innovation and training in Manufacturing systems. We will introduce multidisciplinary programmes and courses to attract students from far and wide, ” the director said.

    Meanwhile, the institution has planned to develop a world class infrastructure with international hostels and guest houses. The director said that NIT, Tiruchy recently inaugurated the Office of the International relations for semester exchange and related activities with leading universities.

    She said that the student council with e-cell-initiated a challenge last year to innovate for a social cause. One of the winning teams had developed a bus tracking app and urged the NIT community to be more socially relevant. Meanwhile, she acclaimed that students and researchers of the institution had filed nearly 25 patents in the last 10 months.

    Mini Shaji Thomas also lauded faculty members Dr Simon, Dr Ilango, Dr Moorthi, Dr Sivakumaran and Dr Srinivasan who were awarded the Young Faculty Research Fellowship (YFRF) by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, MeitY, Government of India and Dr MP Selvan, who had been selected as the first young faculty fellow from the institute.
