Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Su Thirunavukkarasar has urged the stage government to hold talks with employees of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and prevent the proposed strike announced by the latter demanding upward wage revision.

Expressing solidarity with the TNEB workers and asking the state to fulfill their just demands, Thirunavukkarasar said the government should have revised the wages of TNEB officials in 2015, but it has been done so far. Referring to the token strike call issued by the TNEB staff on January 23, Tuesday, the TNCC chief said the wage row remains deadlocked after the management informed the unions that it would only provide 2.44 per cent rise, against the 2.57 per cent sought by the employees.

The state also refused to pay the arrears due to them from 2015. Also, asking the government to regularise the services of around 5,000 and 6,000 contract staff working for 15 and 7 years respectively, Thirunavukkarasar asked the government to fulfill the demand of the staff to immediately fill nearly 40,000 vacancies in the department.
