In a petition submitted to the Madurai district administration, the ambulance workers claimed that district manager Kumaran has been abusing women staff. According to Irulandi, state president, Tamil Nadu 108 Ambulance Workers Welfare Association, Kumaran used abusive language while interacting with women staff and was also ill-treating them.

They also complained that Kumaran used to come to work in an inebriated condition and misbehave with the women workers. Though the management had instructed district managers not to undertake midnight inspection, Kumaran had been flouting the rules.

On January 1, 2017, he had transported his mother to a hospital from Dindigul to Salem (a distance of 231 km) even though there was a rule that the service should be used only within the respective districts. Also, he had used the ambulance for his mother’s return journey from the hospital at Dindigul.

Therefore, the district administration should take immediate action against him and ensure the safety and dignity of women workers, demanded Irulandi.
