Stone tablet for PM-opened road fixed in Rameswaram
Close to six months after the inauguration of the 9.5-km road to Dhanushkodi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a stone tablet with the name of the PM was installed in Mukundarayar Chathiram in Rameswaram, on Thursday.

Official sources said that the stone tablet could not be fixed on July 27, 2017, the day of inauguration as the programme was finalised only at the eleventh hour.
Moreover, there was heavy wind and the road remained under heaps of sand most of the time. Since, the boulders were also not stable, there was some kind of uncertainty over the inauguration of the road. As it was a dream project of Modi, works were undertaken on a war-footing and it was completed.
The 1964 cyclone, which wreaked havoc in the whole of Tamil Nadu, completely destroyed the road connectivity between Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi.
Residents were demanding for a proper road for several years and it was fulfilled only after Modi came to power. The new stretch was inaugurated on the occasion of the second death anniversary of former President, APJ Abdul Kalam.
