3 held with 7 kg gold in Madurai
Over 7 kg of gold, in various forms concealed in socks, music amplifiers and shaving razors was seized by sleuths attached to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) at Madurai airport, on Wednesday.

Sources said, on suspicion three passengers who arrived at the airport here from Singapore on Tuesday midnight were examined thoroughly by DRI personnel.
The sleuths found gold wrapped in the socks of a person. Gold bars weighing around 4 kg were seized from him.
When the second person was checked the sleuths initially could did not find anything in his clothes or body. But, when his baggage was checked, they found a couple of amplifiers. As they grew suspicious, they pried open the core of the amplifiers and found 2.8 kg gold in the form of a thin plate.
When the baggage of the third passenger was checked they found two metal razors. A close examination exposed gold weighing 241 grams concealed within the stem of the razor. Altogether, 7.041 kg of gold valued at Rs 2.13 crore was seized.
Sources said that the trio was only couriers smuggling gold from Singapore which would be collected later by the gang behind the racket.
