Vaishnavites take out rally in Srirangam against lyricist Vairamuthu for his controversial comment about Goddess Andal
They recited Tiruppavai and raised slogans against Vairamuthu and demanded his arrest. They charged that the lyricist has ridiculed the devotees and marred the religious tranquillity in the state.

Vaishnavaites from Srirangam and Kumbakonam along with the residents staged a protest on Friday against lyricist Vairamuthu for his controversial comment on the Goddess Andal.
The devotees who began their protest from Ammamandapam in Srirangam took out a procession.
They recited Tiruppavai and raised slogans against Vairamuthu and demanded his arrest. They charged that the lyricist has ridiculed the devotees and marred the religious tranquillity in the state.
When the protesters reached the Ranga Ranga gopuram in Ranganathaswamy temple, Jeer Ranga Narayana Swamy joined the procession that was taken around the mada streets.
The jeer asked the devotees to file a case against Vairamuthu as he had slandered goddess Andal. It has hurt our sentiments, he said.
In the evening, the Srirangam police booked a case under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly) and 188 (disobedience to the order
duly promulgated by public servant against Divya Desa Parambariya Peravai organiser Govindan and 250 others for holding the rally without obtaining permissions from the police department.
A similar protest was held at Kumbakonam and a procession, led by Bhagavat Kaingarya Sabha president Anandan, was conducted.
