Medical seats: 29 issued dual nativity certificate sans inquiry,Madras HC told
The controversy over the use of the dual nativity certificate, which enabled students from other States to get admission to medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, took a different twist after the Madras High Court was informed on Monday that a random verification of nativity certificates presented by 296 students has revealed that as many as 29 were issued without any inquiry or scrutiny.

The 296 students were admitted to MBBS (2017-18) courses in Tamil Nadu through NEET under CBSE category.
A committee comprising advocates had held the random verification based on a direction passed by Justice N Kirubakaran on a batch of pleas moved by medical aspirant seeking to quash the merit list of the admission since many had obtained the nativity certificates fraudulently.
Recording the submissions made by the Committee through video conferencing, Justice Kirubakaran, who is sitting at the Madurai bench, directed the committee to file the findings in the form of an affidavit, to which the government would file a reply by January 22.
The committee had submitted that during the verification in the presence of the tahsildhars concerned, it was found that out of the 29, as many as eleven of them were issued by the zonal deputy tahsildhars which is against the rules. For the rest, certificates were issued online, paving way for obtaining a physical copy by merely making an application.
Moreover, the supporting documents filed for the nativity certificates were vague and most of them did not denote the actual native place, the memo added.
