A statement released by the DMK headquarters said that Stalin had contacted the Chief Minister over phone around 11 am and requested him to resolve the crisis by holding talks with the striking workers. The DMK working president also urged the CM to fulfill the legitimate demands of the workers, including wage hike and settlement of retirement benefits.

“The Chief Minister lent ears to everything, but he did not reveal as to what measures would be taken immediately to resolve the workers problem and the distress faced by the people,” the statement said.

Stalin had on Friday squarely blamed the state government for the ongoing strike and said the transport minister had forced the workers to go on strike.

He had also asked the CM to directly hold talks with the workers given the failure of the ministerial-level talks.
