Inaugurating the World Atheist Conference, the DK president said that atheism is the only hope that would revive people’s rights legally.
Atheism is not only the denial of God but also a tool to oppose untouchability and caste atrocity in society.
“Atheism approaches everything scientifically and it would find the truth by asking a series of questions,” Veeramani said.
Pointing out that Periyar revolted against caste atrocities and untouchability, Veeramani said, the fight still continues in the society.
Periyar’s concept of ‘no god’ and accept man has reached all globally and the definition for atheist is one who does not accept scriptures and spirituality, Veeramani said.
Later, Veeramani said, the conference that is held once in two years used to pave way for atheists from across the globe to participate and share their ideologies.
“Religion splits people, but atheism unites them,” he said.
Answering a query on spiritual politics announced by Rajinikanth, Veeramani said, the concept is just an act of befooling people.
“There is nothing called a soul and it that does not act as a driving force too. Promoting a thing (soul) which does not exist is just an act of deceiving people,” he elaborated.
Earlier, former Union Minister A Raja, who spoke, said that the concept of atheism was strongly rooted in him during the days he had spent in Tihar Jail.
Theist conference focuses on existence of God
Countering the World Atheists Conference, advocates of Tamizhar Samayam organised a 3-day theists conference here on Friday in which they discussed venue, worshipping God and claimed that one who understands his sixth sense will have knowledge about the soul.
Speaking to reporters at the conference Professor M Deivanayagam (89), who organised the theist conference, said, “When we came to know that the World Atheists Conference was being conducted in Tiruchy, we decided to organise the theists conference on the same day. Our aim is not to oppose them but to clarify the existence of god and the soul.” He further said that the presence of God can be experienced by everyone and they can connect with god through the soul.
Unfortunately, the atheists criticise god without understanding this concept, he noted.
Comment on spiritual politics Speaking about Rajnikanth’s spiritual politics, he said, “It is not yet clear that Rajini’s spiritual politics denotes God or religion or soul.
Deivanayagam, is a retired Tamil professor of the Madras Christian College (MCC).
He is of the view that there is a lot of difference between spiritualism and communalism. He also asked the atheists to be present in their conference for a open debate on the existence of God.
