Posters trigger tension in Dharmapuri again
Tension returned to different parts of Dharmapuri district after posters owing affiliation to a caste Hindu front appeared in the Nallampalli calling for a complete shut down on Friday condemning the police action against members of their community in a case relating to the elopement of girl with a Dalit youth.

The poster was issued in the name of Vanniyar Ilaignar Peravai (an apolitical outfit) and ‘Vanniyar Maanavar Peravai’, both from Dharmapuri district.
The posters were stuck by miscreants not only on the walls but also on the shutters and doors of the shops.
Fearing trouble, many had closed shops in the village on Thursday. The posters, which surfaced on Thursday, criticised the police for arresting ‘innocent’ youth by foisting false cases under the PCR Act.
It also called for slapping of Goondas Act on the ‘vanmurai kumbal’ (violent mob), referring to Dalits, who conspired to hurl petrol bombs.
As the posters triggered panic among villagers, Dharmapuri police held peace talks with representatives belonging to both the communities, Dalits and Vanniyars. They appealed to both the groups to show restraint and maintain peace.
Police seized large number of petrol bombs from the Dalit colony meant to carry out an attack on caste Hindus. Six men, three Dalits and three caste Hindus were arrested over this issue.
As a precautionary measure, police have deployed additional force in the village to tackle any untoward incident.
It may be recalled that the village, located along the Salem-Dharmapuri Road has been on the boil after J Priyanka, a caste Hindu girl, eloped with M Raj Kumar, a dalit youth, last Friday.
