Vivekanandan, father of the student and an auto driver, said that his son Vikas is studying in Class 3 in a private primary school in Burma Colony in Thiru Nagar near Madurai.

On Wednesday afternoon, Vikas and his friends were made to lift an iron bench by the class teacher, Thenmozhi.

Though Vikas initially lifted it, he could not sustain as it was too heavy and he had dropped the bench. One of the corners of the bench fell on his toes. As a result, the toe next to the big toe was cut.

The teacher and the school management without informing the parents or taking him to hospital had just tied the cut part with a cloth. Vikas informed about the incident to his parents after reaching.

They were horrified to see that his toe was cut off and immediately took him to a primary health centre (PHC) at Tirupparankundram.

However, doctors at the PHC directed them to immediately go to the Madurai GRH to join the digits. They rushed to Madurai GRH where he was treated. However, doctors are not sure whether the toe will heal well enough to re-join the feet. They have given the parents a week’s time for the digit to heal.

The teacher and the school management should be held responsible for the injury caused to his son and also for not informing him on time, said an angry Vivekanandan.
