Arjun (22), a final year production engineering student of NIT, Tiruchy, a resident of OMR, Chennai, is different from his classmates. Like any other animal lover, he is interested in rescuing stranded animals.

As a result, he is busy most of the days. He receives calls from people to rescue the snakes whenever they spot them.

As soon as he receives a call, he rushes to the spot with his support tools. When he deftly catches the reptile, he is happy to see the caller heave a sigh of relief. Arjun is doing this, as a hobby and presently receives at least ten calls a day. I never hesitate to help and I rush to the spot with zeal.

“When I was in Class 11, a snake entered my neighbour’s house. I just did not hesitate and immediately rushed into the house and caught the reptile and handed it over to the forest officials,” recalls Arjun.

This incident instilled an interest in Arjun to catch snakes. “When I joined NIT, Tiruchy, a king cobra entered my neighbour’s room and I rescued the snake and handed it over to the forest officials,” says a proud Arjun.

This was a turning point for Arjun in college. He became popular among the students as the snake man. As he received calls from outside too, his college mates are awestruck at his ability .

“I have so far rescued over 2,000 snakes. My best achievement was rescuing 21 snakes in a day and I did it with ease three months ago,” Arjun recalls.

Arjun who has also undergone a special training to catch snakes, crocodile and dogs, said that snakes are actually very useful creatures and are beneficial to humans.

“Unfortunately, many are afraid of them and kill them too. Therefore, several species have become extinct,” remarks Arjun.
