Magistrate inspects disputed land in Arni

Savitri (35) of the area had been cultivating crops in a disputed 3 acre field for over 30 years.

The other contender for this land was her relative Samundeswari (40). Though the matter was in court, Savitri continued to cultivate crops, following which Samundeswari approached the local police for help.

On Wednesday, Arni DSP Zarina Begum, who arrived on the spot ordered a tractor to mow the field and destroy the crop. Savitri in a bid to save her crops fell in the water filled field in front of the tractor to no avail.

The issue became viral as it went on social media.

Making a note of it, the Arni Human Rights magistrate Magizhendhi on Thursday inspected the field personally.

Speaking to reporters, he said that action would be taken on the DSP if inquiries revealed that she had exceeded her brief. A case was registered and tractor driver Sadasivam was arrested and the tractor seized.
