8-year-old boy, woman drown in Pykara river

An 8-year-old boy and a woman drowned in the Pykara River near Ooty on Thursday. Police said Shoba, from Neelimalai village had visited her aunt Nanjamma along with her two children and her neighbour’s son Rishi, 8. On Thursday, Shoba, Nanjamma and three children had gone to collect fire wood near the river. “Suddenly Rishi got into the river and was washed away. Shoba and her aunt tried to rescue him,” police said. But, Shoba and the boy drowned, while onlookers managed to rescue Nanjamma.
