The cyclist, Vadivel from Madurai, is working at a private mobile company and in 2012 he had met with a road accident in which a bus had run over his legs.

Despite treatment, he lost his left leg.

The accident threw his life out of gear and he was very depressed and did not even come out of his house. Thanks to his friends and family, who motivated him to move on, he slowly outgrew his diffidence and decided to pursue his dream of biking up to Kashmir.

He began taking up bike rallies across India and he has travelled 6,723 kilometres in his bike. His record was recognised by the India Book of Records and Limca Book of Records. Following that, he had decided to go on a bicycle rally from Kanniyakumari to Kashmir. In order to practise for this event, he had taken up a bicycle rally from Madurai to Kanniyakumari.

Vadivel said that after the road accident he had given up all hope. But, his friends made him think hard. It was then he decided that he would set an example for other differently-abled persons like him.

He chose bike rally initially because he had met with an accident when he was riding a bike. So, he decided to start his search from the place where he had lost himself. The prime motive behind the rallies is to encourage differently-abled people like him to break their mental shackles and to come out to achieve greater heights, said Vadivel.
