5 of a family die in Madurai as car rams mini lorry

Dheenadayalan (58) of Sivakasi, along with his family, was returning from Tirunelveli. When their car reached Nalatinpudhur on the Madurai-Kanniyakumari Road, the car tyre got punctured and the vehicle lost its balance.

Following that, the car entered the opposite lane and rammed a mini lorry that was proceeding towards Gangaikondan from Kovilpatti. In the incident, five persons, who travelled in the car, suffered grievous injuries and had died on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Dheenadayalan, his wife Kanagavalli (52), his daughter Ananda Lakshmi (25), Ananda Lakshmi’s husband, Saravanakumar (28) and Dheenadayalan’s aunt Varadharajamani (70).

Three persons, Dhivya Jothi (22), younger daughter of Dheenadayalan, lorry driver Balamurugan (50) and cleaner Pandiarajan (36) suffered injuries in the accident. Nalatinpudhur police reached the spot and rushed the injured to the Kovilpatti GH. After preliminary investigation, police said Ananda Lakshmi and Saravanakumar got married a month ago and the family had visited a temple at Cheranmahadevi in Tirunelveli district and then purchased clothes for Pongal. Saravanakumar drove the car and he lost control when the tyre got punctured.
