Selvam was clearing garbage on his land when the gang which came on two motorbikes launched a deadly attack, fleeing only when the Selvam’s official gunman fired two rounds. The gang then went underground. However, police launching a dragnet resulted in three of them (Prathap, Sasikumar and Boopalan) surrendering in Kanchipuram.
Meanwhile, Bagayam police arrested five persons in connection with the murder of Gopi a construction worker two days ago on Wednesday.
The murder was the result of a spat between the victim and Ranjit, his brother in law, over how the former treated his mother in law.
Wanting to punish Gopi, he along with his friends from Sriperumbudur, where he worked, murdered Gopi when the latter was asleep. The arrested were identified as Khaja Mohideen (28), Madankumar (29), Mohammed Babu (23), Daniel (22) and Rahamathullah (26) while a search is still on for Ranjit, who is absconding.
