In a statement he said Jayalalithaa was a great leader who lived for the people and those who received posts through her had not taken action to stop the slander against her.Such reports are against media ethics and the media should show care and responsibility when reporting about the former Chief Minister, he said.

Citing media reports about the claims of a woman, Amrutha, being the daughter of the Jaya, Vivek said, a section of the media was blowing up the issue. Even when Jayalalithaa adopted VN Sudhakaran, she announced it publicly, Vivek recalled.

However, reacting to the statement, Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa Jayakumar said, “What was Vivek doing when the issue flared up and why is he raising it belatedly?”

She opined that the family of VK Sasikala was trying to bring the issue back to the limelight when the people of RK Nagar are getting ready to vote in the bypolls. Deepa said she had already initiated legal action to stop such reports and she had also openly condemned it, when such reports were telecast. Besides, the family want to display themselves in good light, when the Arumugasamy Commission is gearing up to summon the family members and interrogate about Jayalalithaa’s treatment and death, she alleged.
