Man held for killing 12-day-old baby girl

Bhoopathy’s wife, Danalakshmi had given birth to a baby girl at Kumarapalayam GH on December 6. After she went home, there used to be frequent quarrel between her and Bhoopathy as he did not give enough money for her expenses. In the early hours of Monday, Danalakshmi found her child missing.  

The shocked woman informed her husband and  the couple had together gone on a frantic search for the baby, but in vain.  Boopathy pretending to be a worried father, lodged a complaint at the Kumarapalayam police station. After a search, the police found the baby floating in the ground level tank of a new house coming up nearby. 

The Kumarapalayam police immediately retrieved the body and sent it for post mortem at Kumarapalayam Government Hospital. Police inquiries revealed that Boopathy perceived the birth of the baby to be the reason behind his wife picking up quarrels with him. Hence, he killed his own daughter by drowning in the tank. The Kumarapalayam police registered a case and arrested the accused. Further investigation is on.
