Thousands of fishermen had gone for deep sea fishing well before the cyclone and many did not return. More than 80,000 fishermen in 42 coastal villages are indulged in deep sea fishing in the state. Despite that, the state and Central governments had not informed about the cyclone in advance and this had affected the fishermen, he said.

The central government did not show interest in rescuing the fishermen immediately after the cyclone and the rescue measures commenced only from December 3. Still, 551 fishermen are reported missing.

The families are now struggling to know the whereabouts of the missing fishermen. Therefore, the government should take all efforts to find the missing fishermen, prayed the petitioner.
