RK Nagar voters’ list still not clean: DMK

Even after several rounds of deletion of invalid votes, irregularities still prevail in the voters’ list in RK Nagar, said PTRP Thiagarajan, Madurai Central MLA, here on Sunday.

Addressing reporters in his office, Thiagarajan, who is also the Secretary of IT Wing of the DMK, said that the RK Nagar bypoll has the unique track record of deleting 47,786 invalid voters, which accounts to 18 per cent of total voters, after the election dates were announced. On an average 187 voters per booth have been removed.

“When the IT wing of the DMK analysed the voters’ list meticulously, it is found that still 777 voters ID appear more than once in the valid voters list released after two rounds of deletion. The list also raises the doubt that many of the valid voters will also have been removed from the voters’ list and there would be problems on the day of polling,” he said.

He also noted that the final voters’ list released by the Election Commission is so poorly designed and the 187 average deletions per booth will cause chaos on the day of polling. The final list also contains the names of the deleted invalid voters with just a “deleted” watermark on the names. The problem is that the watermark can be removed easily by various software programmes such as PDF Editor and the invalid voters name can be made valid at the final moment.

“Why did the EC release the voters’ list with the names of deleted voters?” Thiagarajan asked. He also demanded the Commission to release a fresh list by removing the names of invalid voters. The DMK IT wing had issued fresh list to their functionaries without the names of invalid voters.
