Tirupur Collector to decide on TASMAC shop
He also submitted that the shop relocation has been done contrary to Supreme Court directives and various statutory rules in this regard.
Chennai
The Madras High Court has directed the Tirupur Collector to inspect a TASMAC liquor shop that has been opened in a residential area and take a pragmatic decision within a week to protect public interest.
A division bench comprising Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice K Ravichandrabaabu offered the direction while disposing of a PIL moved by M Palaniswamy, a resident of Palladam Taluk in Tirupur district.
The petitioner had contended that the TASMAC shop bearing no 2264 which was originally established at 2-Naranapuram village, Vettupattankuttai, Palladam, was recently relocated to Sedderpalayam, a residential area.
“We, the residents of the area, protested before and after the relocation of the shop. The officials, who intervened gave lame excuses and promised to shift the shop away from the residential area. But, till now no step has been taken to move the shop,” the petitioner said.
He also submitted that the shop relocation has been done contrary to Supreme Court directives and various statutory rules in this regard.
