MBBS student held for murdering ex-serviceman
Police arrested a fourth year MBBS student on charges of murdering an ex-serviceman here on Friday.
The preliminary inquiry revealed that the victim was the friend of the student’s father and had come to the latter’s house to advice the youth as he was not serious in studies.
The accused was identified as K Santhosh Kumar of Sivanikulam, the only son of Kumar, a building contractor. He was pursuing MBBS in a college at Chidambaram in Cuddalore District.
According to police, preliminary inquiry revealed that the Kumar couple were worried that their son was not taking the examinations and always remained at home. Since he did not listen to their advice, Kumar sought help from his friend M Noushad an ex-serviceman from Kollam to talk to Santhosh Kumar. Two days ago, Noushad and his friend reached Kumar’s place.
It is learnt that the conversation between Noushad and Santhosh Kumar was not pleasant. Around 2.30 am on Friday Santhosh Kumar was getting ready to go to Chidambaram when an argument broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, the youth stabbed Noushad with a knife, leaving him dead in a pool of blood. While Santhosh fled the place, his family raised an alarm, making the neighbours rush to Kumar’s place. They alerted the Thuckalay police, who sent the body to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Asaripallam for post-mortem. Police then arrested Santhosh, who was hiding in a village.
