Cop donated land for government school
A pall of gloom descended on the Salaipudhur village, the hometown of Periyapandian, who was shot dead in Rajasthan while in the line of duty. Villagers, who thronged his home, recalled his magnanimity, especially his gesture of donating 15 cents of land for a government primary school in his village.

Until the land was donated, and the school came up, local children had to walk three km to attend school, When the government was trying to establish a school in the village, Periyapandian immediately offered his land, through his brother. Local children finally had access to primary education, thanks to Periyapandian, said his cousin Subramanian.
Born as the elder son of the family, the Inspector has two brothers and three sisters. All three sisters are married and are residing in nearby villages. One of his brothers is a teacher, while the other one is a farmer.
According to his relatives, Periyapandian was determined to join the Police force, right from the time he joined college and worked hard towards his goal. His dream came true and Periyaandian became a Constable in 1993. While working as a Constable, he prepared for the SI exam. After an attempt he could successfully crack the exam in 2000 and became an SI.
He was also determined to get married only after passing the SI exam, and succeeded in this goal as well. Subramanian said that after Periyapandian became an SI, he began motivating the youth of the village to join the police force.Â
The last time Periyapandian spoke to the family on Tuesday, he was confident of nabbing the accused.
