Medico survives in suicide pact with medical rep

Karthikeyan (27), of Polur on the Tiruvannamalai highway, was working as a medical representative after completing his degree. He was in love with a girl from his locality, presently studying medicine at the Vellore Government Medical College. 

As their love affair was not accepted by both sets of parents, the couple, who spent time in a lodge, near the medical college at Adukamparai on the outskirts of Vellore town decided to take the extreme step. Late at night, Karthikeyan hanged himself from the ceiling in the bathroom and seeing this, the girl tried to follow suit in the bedroom. 

On hearing their cries, locals rushed both to the government hospital, where Karthikeyan was declared dead, while the girl was critical. Vellore taluk police registered a case, sealed the hotel where the couple stayed and sent Karthikeyan’s body to the Vellore Government Pentland Hospital for post mortem. Further investigations are under way.
