However, the exact value of cash amount stolen from the machine is not known as bank officials are in the process of evaluating the deposits.

Police believe the ATM thieves to have switched over to Tirupur after the increased vigil in Coimbatore following a string of break-ins.

Early, on Sunday morning burglars struck in two ATMs located near Tidel Park on Vilankurichi Road and took away over Rs 30 lakh.

In the last two weeks, the burglars have also made three futile attempts to steal cash from ATMs in Coimbatore.

Among them, police have cracked two cases and arrested a few persons.

A man and his son from Kanniyakumari were arrested for attempting to break open an ATM on Cross Cut Road, a youth from Udumalpet was held for attempting to break an ATM at

Podanur, while police are clueless on a similar attempt in Park Gate area.

Meanwhile, Coimbatore City police had circulated photographs of two burglars caught on camera, while breaking open the ATMs using gas cutters, to all police stations across the country to identity the suspects.

“As similar ATM break-ins using gas cutters have been reported in Andhra Pradesh recently, a police team has been sent there to hold enquiries.

Another team has gone to Kerala,” said a senior police official.

The police have planned to hold meetings with bank officials to enhance the security as the burglars have targeted ATMs not manned by security guards.

City Police Commissioner K Periaiah said that they have got some vital clues in the burglaries. “Further investigation is on and we hope to nab the culprits soon,” he said.
