    Training in operations for 9,500 railway staff

    The Southern Railway (SR) has set up 26 centres to train over 9,500 staff of the operations department under “Project Saksham” devised by the ministry to enhance the productivity and efficiency of the entire workforce.

    To begin with, SR has commenced the special training programme for the operation department staff comprising station master, guards, trainee section controllers and instructors from all divisions.

    In Chennai division, 12 teams have been formed to train over 2,000 operation department staff, who would be monitored and tutored at Tambaram, Chengalpet, Perambur, Katpadi, Sulurpet and Arakkonam.

    “Some contingencies arise on field only once in a life time and the staff may hardly have faced it in their career. Their preparedness would be tested for such contingencies in particular,” the officer explained.

    The project comprises a fiveday field training on their area of work and interactive sessions between the expert teams and the staff.

    Principal chief operations manager of SR zone S Anantharaman had inaugurated the first special training programme at Tiruchy division recently.
