Protests by Muslim, Hindu outfits mark Babri Masjid anniversary across TN
Members of Hindu and Muslim outfits held a string of protests across western and southern districts in the view of the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on Wednesday.
Coimbatore
Around 300 members of Manithaneya Jananayaga Katchi were arrested for attempting to gherao the Coimbatore railway station to mark their protest against the demolition of the mosque.
Tension prevailed when a huge posse of policemen, deployed at the railway station attempted to block their entry.
Similarly, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged a protest at Aathupalam area demanding justice for the demolition of the mosque.
A large number of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kalazham (TMMK) members staged a demonstration near Red Cross office by wearing black shirts.
Members of VCK and Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) also joined the protest with TMMK.
Around 900 members of Hindu Munnani Katchi were removed for staging a protest in front of Gandhipuram-Tiruvalluvar bus stand demanding to build Ram temple in Ayodhya. Police also arrested 11 members of Hindu Makkal Katchi-Vivekanandar Makkal Iyakkam for attempting to gherao the Coimbatore international airport.
Muslim organisations and political parties, also staged protests in various places across southern districts demanding re-construction of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
In Madurai, organisations such as Thowheed Jamaath, Manitheya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (MMMK),
MNJK, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam and SDPI staged protests.
MMMK staged an agitation in front of the Head Police office at Tallakulam while MNJK tried to stage rail roko but were taken into custody.
At Rameswaram, Shiv Sena demanded the central government to construct Ram temple and sent a brick and idols of Ram, Sita, Laxman and Hanuman to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
