According to the December 4 meeting, details of which was published on Wednesday, the Collegium of three senior-most judges, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justices J Chelameswar and Ranjan Gogoi recommended C Emalias, PT Asha, M Nirmal Kumar, senior advocate Subramonium Prasad, Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, N Anand Venkatesh, GK Ilanthiraiyan, Krishnan Ramasamy, and C Saravanan, for appointment as judges at MHC. Subramonium Prasad, is presently the Additional Advocate General for Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court.
However, advocates AV Radhakrishnan and B Pugalendhi, who were in the list of eleven, were not found suitable for elevation since the former had crossed the upper age limit of 55 years, while the latter had “certain adverse but unconfirmed inputs” received by the Collegium.
The 11 names were selected by the then Chief Justice of the Madras High Court SK Kaul on December 19, 2016.
