Though there is no specific threat alert, the number of police personnel deployed on security has been increased in major cities, towns and district headquarters, with watch towers and check posts being set up at vantage points.

Security is also tightened in temples and places of worships. Police have directed shopping malls, cinema theatres and commercial complexes to install metal detectors at the entry points of the buildings.

In Chennai city, nearly 18,000 police personnel have been deployed in important places like places of worship, airport, railway stations, bus stands, hotels and malls.

Railway police had also deployed additional persons at stations, railway overbridges and railway tracks to monitor the developments since Tuesday night onwards.

Armed security men had been posted at many places, including the Central Railway Station, with GRP and RPF coordinating the security measures.
