    Taking a veiled dig at TTV Dhinakaran, the Chief Minister, who was here participate in the MGR centenary function, said “Jayalalithaa’s soul had already punished him for resorting to illegal means to get the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol and now it is the turn of people to punish Dinakaran in polls.”

    Referring to the charges of the DMK against the government on various issues, Palanisamy said the people would never approve of family politics in the state.

    In the wake of widespread criticism against the state government on illegal hoardings, the Chief Minister joined the issue with the DMK by showing pictures of arches, cut outs and banners erected on roads during the Classical Tamil Conference in Coimbatore.

    “Software engineer Raghu did not die by crashing on the arch, but was only knocked down by a lorry. Stalin is unable to digest the success of MGR centenary celebrations and had been spreading false information to malign the function,” he said.

    The Chief Minister during the event unveiled two life size statues of former chief ministers, J Jayalalithaa, MG Ramachandran and CN Annadurai statue on Avinashi Road here.

    Surprisingly, there was no official announcement regarding the statues coming up at the arterial Anna Statue junction. The Anna statue remained covered for over three months, but on Sunday it was opened for public view.

    In a sharp response to Opposition parties’ criticism of the State government over the rescue and relief operations in the cyclone-hit Kanniyakumari district, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami said that a team of ministers, led by Deputy Chief Minister O Panneer selvam, have gone to Kanniyakumari to assess the cyclone damage and to coordinate rescue operations.

    Seeman slams govt on banner culture
    Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman on Sunday slammed the growing banner culture in the state and sought to put an end to it.
    Speaking to media at the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday, Seeman said that the government should end the banner culture. “I express my condolences to the family of Raghupathy, whose life was sniffed out due to illegal arches,” he said.
    Taking a dig at the government for failing to take precautionary measures at times of disasters like cyclone Ockhi, Seeman said while people are plunged in sorrow, the government is celebrating MGR Centenary.
    On actor Vishal contesting the RK Nagar polls, Seeman said it is the people who choose their leader. On director Ammer’s announcement of contesting in RK Nagar on behalf of Naam Tamilar Katchi, Seeman said that it would be decided on Monday.
